Centre for Pharmaceutical Engineering Science

The Centre for Pharmaceutical Engineering Science (CPES) is an interdisciplinary research centre, which has been developed across the pharmaceutical sciences, polymer and process engineering disciplines. The Centre offers expertise in the areas of pharmaceutical materials, drug delivery systems, novel process development, reactive extrusion, material characterisation and Process Analytical Technology (PAT).

The research activity is focused on novel green technologies for pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceutical processing in the niche areas related to advanced pharmaceutical materials with initial emphasis on polymer melt rheology, the rheology of biopolymers, improved coating strategies and process analytics.

There are also a number of related fields to which Pharmaceutical Engineering can be applied including biomedical sciences, nutraceuticals and foodstuffs.  Suppliers of manufacturing equipment, sensors, materials handling and ancillary devices are also connected to the pharmaceutical engineering area.

The CPES has state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment which includes:

The CPES has established links with research laboratories within the UK, elsewhere in Europe, China and India.

The Centre for Pharmaceutical Engineering Science is one of the Specialist Laboratories and Centres established at the University of Bradford.
